The Composer’s Music Box--Gears and Levers - Michel Singher with his musicians will investigate what makes a piece of music be a piece of music. As we unwrap the composer’s present, we will ask what makes this note ‘right’ and another ‘wrong’.
Michel Singher, now a Felton resident, was born in Paris during the war. His family, fleeing the Nazi occupation, eventually settled in New York, where his father was a leading baritone at the Metropolitan Opera. He graduated from Harvard College with an A.B., magna cum laude, in History and Literature. By then, however, he had decided to give music his best shot after all, and with the help of Fulbright and then at Indiana University, earned a Masters in Instrumental Conducting. His professional life began at Hamburg State Opera and continued throughout Europe for many years. He has taught at the University of Washington, Oberlin Conservatory of Music and conducted at Lincoln Center. His concerts have been broadcast on NPR’s “Performance Today.” He will have a trio of classical musicians for this family concert. Purchase Tickets Here for Espressivo!
